Some uses or activities are allowed with a home occupation permit. 1) The use shall be carried on by a resident of the dwelling; 2) No more than 1 employee not a resident of the dwelling is permitted; 3) Sales of commodities, goods or products is prohibited; 4) All work shall be confined to the principal dwelling exclusive of an attached garage; 5) Shall not occupy more than 25% of total floor area (including basement) exclusive of garage; 6) Shall not be open to the public except during the hours of 8:00 a.m. & 8:00 p.m. Contact the Development Services Division at 785-368-3704.
Can be conducted in resident’s dwelling for less than 24 hours a day to a maximum of 12 persons (including your own children) in the districts R-1 Single Family through M-1 Two Family. Starting with the M-2 Multiple Family District, a day care for less than 24 hours a day can be operated as a secondary and/or ancillary use to a principal use such as but not limited to a place of worship, community center, library, private business. You are not required to obtain a building permit for a storage shed if the shed is less than 150 square feet. The rear yard setback must be 5 feet and the side yard 3 feet. Shed must remain out of all easements. For all other sheds, contact the Development Services Division at 785-368-3704.
