Our Mission
To safeguard life or limb, health, property and public welfare by interpreting and enforcing our currently adopted codes and by inspecting buildings, structures and sites for compliance with laws regulating construction, quality of materials, use & occupancy, location and maintenance within the City of Topeka.
Objectives
To maintain the highest level of public safety and customer service in the administration of building construction code enforcement.
Hours
The Development Services Division is open between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. To schedule an inspection, requests are taken in person at the division counter, or by telephone at 785-368-3905, during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for the following day. Inspection requests may be faxed to 785-368-3915; faxes received by 4:00 PM will allow an inspection to be scheduled for the next workday.
Staff
Under the direction of Richard Faulkner, Division Director Development Services, the division has 19 full time employees. Approximately half the staff provides administrative and permit processing services and half the staff provides field inspection services. The field inspection staff is managed by Dave Lundry. The permit and plan review section is managed by Fran Hug.
