Claiming Items From the Property & Evidence Room

The owner must present:

  • A valid driver’s license or state issued photo ID card. We will accept most forms of an ID as long as it includes a photo and date of birth.
  • If the owner is having someone claim their property for them, they will need to write up a statement instructing the police department to release, what to release and who we are to release to. The statement must include the case number. The statement must be notarized.
  • If some of the necessary documents cannot be presented to the property personnel, you will be required to obtain new originals from the appropriate agencies.
  • If you are not the owner of the items being released, in addition to the above documents you must also have a notarized authorization from the owner, dated, signed and notarized authorizing release of the items to you. The notarized authorization may be no more than one week old.
