Purpose
The Gage Park Improvement Authority is responsible for administering, distributing and expending the proceeds from a countywide sales tax to benefit Gage Park, the Topeka Zoo, and the Children’s Discovery Center.
Meetings
The Board shall meet at least quarterly.
Membership
Pursuant to L. 2022, Ch. 63, §§ 20-27, the Authority shall consist of seven (7) members; One (1) shall be the Director of the Zoo or designee; One (1) shall be the Director of the Children’s Discovery Center or designee; One (1) shall be the Director of Shawnee County Parks & Recreation or designee; Two (2) appointed by the Board of County Commissioners and Two (2) appointed by the Mayor, with City Council consent. Members shall be appointed for a term of three years (3), reside in Shawnee County; and be a registered voter. A financial background and an understanding of the City’s management agreement with the Friends of the Topeka Zoo is helpful.
