Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) Program

The Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) is setup to serve the citizen’s of Topeka as a volunteer support service to the Topeka Police Department, enhancing their effectiveness of community policing through the provision of administrative, patrol, and support services when requested or required by the department. Learn more about VIPS.

Cadet Program

The Cadet program is a Law Enforcement Explorer program associated with the Boy Scouts of America Learning for Life Explorer Program and sponsored by the Topeka Police Department. Post 7721 has been in existence since 1968 and offers young men and women an opportunity to 'explore' a side of police work that television doesn't.

If you meet our qualifications and are interested in learning more about what a law enforcement career may have to offer, then being a Law Enforcement Explorer may be for you. If you are interested in a career in Law Enforcement or just looking for an exciting and challenging opportunity to expand your horizons, then being an Explorer is for you! For more information call Recruiting and Hiring Officer Brandon Gogian at 785-368-9490, send an email, or visit the web page.

Chaplain Program

For nearly 40 years, there has been a Chaplains Program at the Topeka Police Department. These men and women volunteer their time and services to serve and support the community and the employees of the Topeka Police Department. There are twelve chaplains who each have a duty week and provide support to officers and employees. The chaplain assists officers with making unattended death notifications; they will make hospital visits, provide reading material, perform memorial and wedding services if requested and provide counseling to employees and their spouses. For long-term problems, referrals are made.

If you have any questions about the Chaplains Program, please contact 368-9051 or e-mail chaplain@topeka.org.
