On October 16, the Topeka Planning Commission approved the Tennessee Town Neighborhood Plan. The plan is scheduled to go before the Governing Body at their November 14 meeting.

At the December 19 meeting of the Topeka Planning Commission, Commissioners voted 9-0-0 to recomend to the Governing Body the zoning request, subject to conditions in the
staff report, and conditioned upon the governong body annexing the property.

Downtown Historic District Design Guidelines now available
Planning Commission recommends approval of City’s second
Neighborhood Conservation District (NCD) for Elmhurst.
State awards Planning Department $41,700 in Historic Preservation Fund grants.
- $20,000 to conduct a historic resource survey for a portion of the Greater Auburndale neighborhood located just west of the Potwin Place National Historic District. The purpose is to determine eligibility for a historic district. The Department is matching $9,000 of paid staff time and $5,000 of cash budgeted funds to the project.
- $15,000 to conduct a historic resource survey for the Topeka Cemetery to determine those features that are eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic place. The Department is matching $9,000 in paid staff time to the project.
- $6,700 for educational training to have up to 3 Landmarks Commissioners and one staff attend the national preservation conference. The grant will fund all expenses.
Heritage Tourism grants approved.

2015 Hi-Crest Neighborhood Plan Update approved by City Council
City of Topeka Planning Department Receives 2015 Pioneer Award
The City of Topeka Planning Department was awarded the
2015 Pioneer Award from the Kansas Chapter of the American Planning Association for the
Land Use and Growth Management Plan (LUGMP) video. This represents the first-ever State-wide Planning award for the City of Topeka! It recognizes projects that demonstrate creativity and innovation in using planning to meet a community need or solve a public problem. The
LUGMP was approved by the Governing Body March 10, 2015, supporting fiscally responsible and sustainable growth policies by investing where we already are or can afford to be.
