Multiple Fire Incidents

TOPEKA, Kan. –The Topeka Fire Department Responded to eight fire incidents beginning July 17, 2018 at 11:50 PM. No injuries or fatalities were reported at any of these incidents. One male juvenile was arrested by the Topeka Fire Department Investigation Unit in connection with this incident; no other information is available to be released at this time. 07/17/2018 at 11:50 PM fire crews responded to 1100 SW Clay St. in reference to an unknown fire. Upon arrival fire crews found dried leaves and grass on fire behind the residential structure. One vehicle sustained an estimated $500 in damage as a result of the fire. Preliminary investigation determined the fire cause to be incendiary, intentionally set.

07/18/2018 at 12:17 AM fire crews responded to 900 SW Buchanan St. in reference to a garage fire. Upon arrival fire crews found a detached garage on fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire keeping it contained to the structure of fire origin. The garage structure sustained an estimated $150.00 in damages. Preliminary investigation determined the fire cause to be incendiary, intentionally set.

07/18/2018 at 12:19 AM fire crews responded to 1112 SW Clay St. in reference to a fire behind the structure. Fire crews arrived and found trash on fire next to the structure. There is no dollar loss associated with this fire. Preliminary investigation determined the fire cause to be incendiary, intentionally set.

07/18/2018 at 12:20 AM fire crews responded to 801 SW Jewell Ave. in reference to an unknown fire next to a garage. Fire crews arrived to find dried grass and leaves on fire next to a detached garage. Fire spread to the garage before it was extinguished. The fire caused an estimated $100 in damages to the garage.  Preliminary investigation determined the fire cause to be incendiary, intentionally set.

07/18/2018 at 12:20 AM fire crews who were in the area for another incident discovered a fire at 1011 SW Munson Ave. Firefighters found a structure on fire. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire keeping it contained to the structure of fire origin. Fire damage was limited to the exterior of the unoccupied single family residential structure. Damages to the structure were estimated at $200. It is unknown if there were any working smoke detectors in the structure. Preliminary investigation determined the fire cause to be incendiary, intentionally set.

07/18/2018 at 12:20 AM fire crews discovered a garage fire at 1169 SW Fillmore St. Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire keeping it contained to the structure of fire origin. Damages to the garage structure were estimated at $200. Preliminary investigation determined the fire cause to be incendiary, intentionally set.

07/18/2018 at 12:24 AM fire crews responded to a fire located at 2200 SW 8th Ave. Upon arrival fire crews found a trash container on fire behind the residence. Fire crews extinguished the fire keeping it contained to the trash container. This fire caused an estimated $100 in damages. Preliminary investigation determined the fire cause to be incendiary, intentionally set.
