1600 SE 23rd Street Structure Fire Incident

TOPEKA, Kan. –The Topeka Fire Department Responded to a structure fire located at 1600 SE 23rd Street, Topeka Kansas just before 12:00 AM on Friday February 16, 2018.  Upon arrival, fire crews found a camper trailer fully involved with fire. Firefighters began an offensive fire attack keeping it confined to the structure of fire origin. Upon firefighters arrival they confirmed that the sole occupant of the camper had escaped the fire.

1025 NW Jackson St. Structure Fire Incident (Detached Garage)

TOPEKA, Kan. –The Topeka Fire Department responded to a structure fire located at 1025 NW Jackson St. Topeka, Kansas shortly after 06:20 AM on Sunday February 11, 2018.  Upon arrival, fire crews found a detached garage structure in the back alley, with fire coming through the roof.  Firefighters began an aggressive fire attack on the structure, keeping it contained to the structure of fire origin.  The garage was found secured with no occupants.

3304 SE Emerson St. Structure Fire Incident

TOPEKA, Kan. –The Topeka Fire Department responded to a structure fire with possible person (s) trapped at 3304 SE Emerson St. Topeka, Kansas shortly after 11:00 AM on Sunday February 11, 2018. Upon arrival, fire crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from a single story dwelling. Firefighters began an aggressive search of the interior of the residence, finding no victims. The owners were soon located in the front yard of the property and advised that 2 Adults and 5 children were able to escape the residence unharmed. The fire was quickly extinguished, keeping it contained to a bedroom of the dwelling.

Topeka Fire Department Responds to a Garage Fire 3302 SE Girard St. Topeka, KS

Topeka, Kan. – The Topeka Fire Department responded to a structure fire located at 3302 SE Girard St. Topeka, Kansas just after 1:30PM on Wednesday February 7, 2018. Upon arrival, fire crews reported heavy fire and smoke showing from the west side of the one story wood framed detached garage. Fire crews quickly attacked the fire keeping it contained to the garage. One neighbor rescued a pet dog from the garage prior to the Topeka Fire Department’s arrival. Fire crews rendered medical aid to the dog and it regained consciousness.

Topeka Fire Department Responds to an Apartment Building Fire

Topeka, Kan. – The Topeka Fire Department responded to a structure fire located at 1205 SW Polk St., Topeka, Kansas just before 2:00 PM on Monday February 5, 2018. Upon arrival, fire crews reported smoke showing from the street side of the two story wood framed apartment building. This building (The Belmark Apartments) contained a total of twelve apartments. Ten of the twelve apartments were occupied. Fire crews quickly attacked the fire that had spread from the bottom floor toward the upper floors. All occupants and pets escaped the fire with no injuries.

1113 SE 43rd St. Structure Fire Incident

TOPEKA, Kan. –The Topeka Fire Department Responded to a structure fire located at 1112 SW Woodward Ave., Topeka Kansas just after 12:00 PM on Thursday February 1, 2018. Upon arrival, fire crews found the two story wooden frame residential structure with fire showing from the exterior. Firefighters began an offensive fire attack and extinguished the fire.

A Topeka Fire Department Investigation’s Unit responded to this incident to determine the origin and cause for the fire. The following is a brief summary;

  • Preliminary investigation indicates the fire cause to be incendiary, associated with a malfunctioning fire place.
  • Estimated dollar loss – $5,000.00 (Five Thousand Dollars) of which all is associated with structural loss.
  • The initial response to this fire involved Three (3) Engine Companies, Two (2) Truck Companies, One (1) Battalion Chief and an Investigator.
  • Working smoke detectors were located within the home.

3030 SW Wanamaker Rd. Structure Fire Incident

TOPEKA, Kan. –The Topeka Fire Department Responded to a structure fire located at 3030 SW Wanamaker Rd., Topeka Kansas just before 10:30 AM on Thursday February 1, 2018. Upon arrival, fire crews found smoke inside the single story commercial structure. A fire sprinkler system had activated extinguishing the fire.

A Topeka Fire Department Investigation’s Unit responded to this incident to determine the origin and cause for the fire. The following is a brief summary;

  • Preliminary investigation indicates the fire cause to be accidental.
  • Estimated dollar loss – $2,000.00 (Two Thousand Dollars); of which all is associated with contents loss.
  • The initial response to this fire involved Three (3) Engine Companies, One (1) Truck Company, One (1) Aerial Ladder Company, One (1) Battalion Chief, One (1) Shift Commander, One (1) Fire Inspector and an Investigator.
  • The origin of the fire was within the kitchen area.
  • Assisting agencies at this incident included Kansas Gas Service, Westar Energy and State of Kansas Department of Agriculture.
  • Working smoke detectors were located within the structure.

3100 SW 29th Terrace Structure Fire Incident

3100 SW 29th Terrace Structure Fire Incident

TOPEKA, Kan. –The Topeka Fire Department Responded to a structure fire located at 3100 SW 29th Terrace, Topeka Kansas just before 10:30 AM on Tuesday January 23, 2018. Upon arrival, fire crews found the two story wooden ballooned frame apartment structure with nothing showing. Firefighters encountered smoke when they entered the building. Firefighters located the fire and quickly extinguished it. A search of the apartment of fire origin revealed no occupants.

A Topeka Fire Department Investigation’s Unit responded to this incident to determine the origin and cause for the fire. The following is a brief summary;

  • Preliminary investigation indicates the fire cause to be incendiary, (intentionally set).
  • The fire originated in apartment 208.
  • 25 year old Blake A. Barrow was arrested and transported to the Shawnee County Department of Corrections where he was booked for Aggravated Arson.
  • Estimated dollar loss – $1,100.00 (One Thousand One Hundred Dollars); $1,000.00 (One Thousand Dollars) structural loss and $100.00 (One Hundred Dollars) contents loss.
  • The initial response to this fire involved Three (3) Engine Companies, One (1) Truck Company, One (1) Aerial Ladder Company, One (1) Battalion Chief, One (1) Shift Commander and an Investigator.
  • Assisting agencies at this incident included the Topeka Police Department, Kansas Gas Service and Westar Energy.
  • No working smoke detectors were located in the apartment of fire origin.
