‚ÄčRefuel Topeka Kickoff Skating Event

Topeka, KS- Refuel Topeka will be kicking off on October 21st from 5 to 7 PM at Starlite Skate to promote new afterschool meal sites in the City. Children from age five to eighteen are welcome to attend. The children will be able to skate and enjoy a meal while learning about the new meal sites in the City.

The Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library currently provide after school meals, and new meal sites include the Crestview Community Center, Oakland Community Center and Rice Community Center. Meals will be served Monday through Friday from 4-4:30 p.m. These three neighborhoods have a combined total of approximately 2,500 children that will now have access to free meals. These locations will be served shelf stable Meals, provided by Harvesters Community Food Network.

Refuel Topeka is funded through the National League of Cities, in partnership with the Food Research and Action Center with support from the Walmart Foundation. NLC has supported 41 cities to serve more than 10 million meals to 100,000 children through the federal Afterschool and Summer Meal Programs over the last five years. Participating sites are reimbursed for the meals through the United States Department of Agriculture Child and Adult Care Food Program.
