1115 SW Taylor Street Structure Fire Incident

 

TOPEKA, Kan. –The Topeka Fire Department Responded to a structure fire located at 1115 SW Taylor St., Topeka Kansas just after 8:00 PM on Monday October 30, 2017.  Upon arrival, fire crews found the two story apartment building with nothing visible. Upon entry to the building firefighters encountered smoke. Firefighters began an offensive fire attack keeping it confined to the structure of fire origin. As a result of the fire, one adult male was transported by AMR to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. A search of the building revealed no other victims.

 

A Topeka Fire Department Investigation's Unit responded to this incident to determine the origin and cause for the fire.  The following is a brief summary;

 

  • Preliminary investigation indicates the fire cause to be accidental, associated with careless smoking.
  • The origin of the fire was located in apartment 1.
  • Estimated dollar loss – $5,500.00 (Five Thousand Five Hundred Dollars); $5,000.00 (Five Thousand Dollars) structural loss and $500.00 (Five Hundred Dollars) contents loss.
  • The initial response to this fire involved Three (3) Engine Companies, One (1) Truck Company, One (1) Aerial Ladder Company, Two (2) Battalion Chief's and an Investigator.
  • Assisting agencies at this incident included the Westar Energy.
