TOPEKA, Kan. –The Topeka Fire Department responded to a fire at 1157 SW Washburn Ave., Topeka, KS shortly after 8:00 PM on Wednesday February 21, 2018.
The first arriving fire engine company reported a small fire within a detached garage and a small grass fire on the south side of the occupied house. The fire was quickly extinguished. An alert passerby seen a person of interest running from the fire location and notified the on scene Fire Investigator which arrived alongside the fire company.
The Fire Investigation Unit along with the Topeka Police Department located the person of interest in a nearby house. The fire investigation resulted in the arrest of a 53 year old male subject.
A Topeka Fire Department Investigation’s Unit reports the following;
- Preliminary investigation indicates the fire cause to be Incendiary, intentionally set.
- Topeka Fire Investigations booked Krieg L. Hensley (53 years of age) into the Shawnee County Jail with the charge of Arson.
- This fire incident had a response of One Engine Company and a Fire Investigator.
