Zoological Park | Zoo Lions Pride
Lions Are Back At The Zoo!They made their public debut on Saturday, May 28th, 2005. The Topeka Zoological Park received two female lions Asante and Zuri from the Ft. Worth Zoo in Ft. Worth, TX.
These new African lions are sponsored by the Topeka Active 20-30 Club. Lion’s Pride originally opened in 1989, providing the public with an opportunity to see a family pride of lions.
Our new male named Avus, was a donation from Henry Vilas Zoo in Madison, Wisconsin. He arrived in June of 2006 and he was one year old.
Zoo staff work with the American Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA)/Lion Species Survival Plan (SSP) management group, Fort Worth Zoo and the Topeka Active 20-30 club to acquire new lions for the zoo.
