This new exhibit opened in the summer of 2005, to provide an up close and personal experience with
Sumatran tigers.
Raguno, our male Sumatran tiger. He is five years old and was born at Akron Zoo in Akron, Ohio.
Sumatran tigers are the smallest of the five species of tigers, with males ranging from 250 to 270 pounds and eight feet in length, while females weigh in at 180 to 200 pounds and are seven feet in length. Sumatran tigers have the darkest coat, with broad stripes closely spaced together.
Tigers in the wild are highly endangered due to poaching and habitat destruction with numbers falling below 400 animals. Sumatran tigers are only found on the island of Sumatra in a habitat that ranges from lowland forest to sub mountain forests. They consume wild pigs and deer in the wild.

black leopards,Tosha and Emma live in the Jungle Cats exhibit. This new exhibit features a waterfall, live plants and trees in the exhibit for the leopards to utilize.
Tosha is fifteen years in age, provided to the zoo by Kansas City Zoo. Emma is 1 1/2 years of age and provided by the USFWS to the Topeka Zoo.
Leopards are found throughout Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, and southern Mongolia and in Indonesia. They inhabit forest, woodlands, and grasslands. This species is listed as IUCN, CITES and USFWS as an endangered species due to widespread habitat loss and poaching.
