You must be 21 years of age at the time of appointment (20 1/2 at the time of testing).


Graduation from a U.S. High School, G.E.D. or equivalent from a U.S. institution that is recognized by the State of Kansas.

According to KAR 160-3-4 education requirements exist as:

  • Graduating from accredited US High School OR
  • General Education Development (GED) OR
  • Proof of program completion of non-accredited private secondary school registered with the state in which instruction was completed AND
    Scoring at least 50th percentile in
    American College Test (ACT) OR
    Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) OR
  • Proof of admission into post-secondary state educational institution accredited by the Kansas State Board of Regents or another accrediting body having the same minimum admission standards.

Applicant must be a United States Citizen

Health Requirements
You must have no health conditions that would restrict your ability to safely complete
Academy training and to perform all aspects of police work.

You must have normal ability to understand speech in noisy areas, understand whispered speech, and be able to localize sounds.

Your vision must be correctable to 20/30 in both eyes, with glasses or contact lenses. You must have normal peripheral vision and depth perception. Uncorrected vision of 20/100 in either eye, color blindness, crossed eyes, permanent abnormalities or loss of either eye are cause for rejection. Laser or Radial Karatomy correction is acceptable.
