South Wanamaker Road Project
City/County South Wanamaker Road Project, February-November 2006Wanamaker Photo
The purpose of this joint City/County/Federal Highway Administration, ten-month capital improvement project is to widen Wanamaker Road to five lanes for that section beginning at 37th Street and proceeding south through 41st Street, as well as to widen to three lanes 41st Street beginning at Wanamaker Road and proceeding west approximately 900 feet.

During the road improvement project, a storm sewer running parallel to Wanamaker Road on the same section of the road will be installed simultaneously. The completed project will also install roundabouts at both 37th and Wanamaker and 41st and Wanamaker, replacing the current signalized intersection at 37th and the stop sign controlled intersection at 41st . Questions may be directed to Tom Flanagan at 233-7702, ext. 6115.

Step I: Feb. 1 - March 20
Wanamaker will remain open to unrestricted traffic Monday through Friday before 9:00 a.m. and after 2:00 p.m. while the contractor installs a storm sewer parallel to a section of Wanamaker Road. EXCEPTION: Wanamaker Road between 37th Street south through 38th Street (view map) may experience temporarily closure at the following times:

  • Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
  • Saturday from 12:00 a.m. - Sunday 11:59 p.m.
Step II: March 20 - June 16
For over three months, Wanamaker Road will be COMPLETELY CLOSED to traffic on the section of Wanamaker beginning at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church (just north of the 37th Street intersection) (view map) and proceeding south to the south side of Clarion Lane. The detour (view map) for all through traffic is:
  • for Northbound traffic - from Wanamaker detour west on SW 53rd to Auburn Road, then proceed north to SW 29th Street, then proceed east to Wanamaker;
  • for Southbound traffic - from Wanamaker detour east on SW 29th to Burlingame Road, proceed south to SW 53rd Street, then proceed west to Wanamaker.
After June 16th, this portion of Wanamaker will be opened to traffic.

Step III: June 16 - December 1
For five and a half months, Wanamaker Road will be COMPLETELY CLOSED to traffic on the section beginning immediately south of 38th Street and proceeding south through the intersection of 41st Street. (view map)

Simultaneously SW 41st Street will be COMPLETELY CLOSED beginning at its intersection with Wanamaker Road and proceeding west approximately 900 feet.
Simultaneously 39th Street will be COMPLETELY CLOSED just west of Wanamaker for approximately 30 feet.

The detour for all through traffic is the same as during Step II, above.

We regret any inconvenience this may cause.
