The Traffic Operations Section maintains approximately 150 City owned streetlights and also administers the leased street lighting system of over 8,800 streetlights owned by KP&L / Westar Energy.

Street lighting is generally provided at each intersection located within the city, or at mid-block locations.

Streetlight outages can be reported to the Traffic Operations Section by telephone, fax, or a city web site form. City owned streetlights are identified and repaired by City crews. Leased street lights are reported to KPL / Westar Energy for their repair.

New street lighting requests can be submitted to Traffic Operations Section.

The Traffic Operations Section office is open from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday. For after hour's calls, leave a recorded message at 785-368-3913.
