Development Services | Common City Forms | Adopted CodesThe Mission of the Development Services Division is to safeguard life or limb, health, property and public welfare by inspecting buildings, structures and sites for compliance with local, state and federal laws regulating and controlling the construction, quality of materials, use and occupancy, location and maintenance within the City of Topeka.
Objectives:
To maintain the highest level of public safety and customer service in the administration of building construction code enforcement.
Hours:
The Development Services Division is open between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. To schedule an inspection, requests are taken in person at the division counter, or by telephone at 785-368-3905, during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for the following day. Inspection requests may be faxed to 785-368-3915; faxes received by 3:30 PM will allow an inspection to be scheduled for the next workday.
Staff:
Under the direction of Ms. Miriam Berke, Director of Development Services, the division has 24 full time employees. Approximately half the staff provides administrative and permit processing services and half the staff provides field inspection services.
The field inspection staff is managed by Mr. Dave Lundry.
Plan review and permit processing functions are managed by Howard Uhl. The permit section has two plan reviewers for assistance: Craig Thornburg and Fran Hug.
