The Public Works Department operates and maintains the City's infrastructure including: streets; parking system; traffic signals,signs and markings; bridges; city facilities; stormwater drainage system; flood control system; water treatment facility and distribution system; sanitary sewer collection system; and, wastewater treatment facilities.

Public Works plays an important role in protecting the public's health and safety by providing clean drinking water, ensuring proper wastewater treatment, developing and maintaining the transportation system, and managing stormwater. The department coordinates development through facility planning efforts, ensures environmental compliance, and manages the construction of capital improvements, such as new roads, bridges, water mains and sewer lines. The Public Works Department consists of six (6) divisions: 1) Development Services (permits, inspections, and contractor licensing; 2) Engineering; 3) Water; 4) Water Pollution Control (sewer and stormwater utility); 5) Transportation Operations (Street and Traffic Operations); 6) Facility Management (Facility Operations and Parking).
