Comments Wanted on the 2008-2012 Transportation Improvement Program
The Metropolitan Topeka Planning Organization (MTPO) is the group responsible for conducting a continuing, comprehensive and cooperative transportation planning process for the Topeka Area. This group is responsible for approving documents that program federal funds in the region. One of those documents is the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The TIP programs highway improvement and transit assistance funds from the US Department of Transportation. The Topeka Area is required to have a TIP to stay in compliance with federal regulations. The Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) is reviewed periodically and must be updated at least once every four years.
The MTPO will soon consider the approval of a new TIP for 2008-2012. In advance of this TIP approval the MTPO would like to hear from you about what your concerns are with the Topeka Area’s transportation system. Your comments will be documented and discussed as part of the TIP development process. If you want to be part of the planning process for transportation improvements in our region, now is the time to let the MTPO know what your concerns are about mobility in and around Topeka. If you would like to find out what projects are being proposed for federal funding and what major transportation projects (roads, bridges, transit, paratransit, bikeways, and pedestrian facilities) are being planned for the next few years, then the TIP is one of the documents you should review.
As part of our continuing public involvement activities the public is invited to review the TIP and make comments about it at any time, especially during the updating process. The current public involvement phase of the TIP update process is expected to run for at least twenty days with TIP approval currently scheduled for April 14, 2008. If you have concerns about transportation in the Topeka Area this is a good time to contact us to share those concerns. The hearing draft of the TIP can be viewed at the following address and comments about the draft TIP should be sent to the MTPO as noted below.
