The City of Topeka is pleased to announce the TTYEP, will be seeking up to 45, 14 & 15 year old youth seeking summer employment. Team Topeka Youth Employment Program, will offer area resident youth the opportunity for summer employment with City government offices, summer Day Camp and six community centers.
While youth are working at partner-employer sites, the City pays their salaries. Most youth employees will learn and enhance office & clerical skills, while others will be given leadership and team work training.
Employment begins Wednesday, May 28th and will last through Friday, August 1st. First years selected workers will earn $5.15 per hour, and re-selected second year workers will earn $5.85 per hour. All workers will work (4.0) hours per day, 20.0 hours per week, Monday-Friday between 8:00am-5:00pm. Prior to reporting for work at pre selected locations, each youth worker will receive instructions in first aid, entering the workforce educational support and developing leadership skills, in this On-The-Job training program.
Applicants must be 14 or15 years of age as of May 28th, 2008, complete the formal interview process, be a resident of Topeka, and successfully pass a drug screen test and criminal background check. All youth workers must provide their own transportation to and from the work site. No vacation or other leave time will be allowed during the first month 30 days of employment, May 28tht –July 8th.
