The complex is the result of a partnership between the City of Topeka, the Kansas National Guard, and the softball players of Topeka. Since 1987, over $400,000 has been contributed by the softball players toward the construction of this new softball complex.
Features of Rueger Park
- 4-diamond softball complex, 300 foot fences
- 2-story concession/restroom building with 2nd level observation deck
- Automatic underground irrigation system on all four diamonds
- Tournament quality lighting (50 foot-candles infield, 30 foot-candles outfield)
- One-way ring road access around the complex with parallel and diagonal parking
- Accessible facility that meets the current ADA requirements
New Enhancements for 2000
- Electronic scoreboards installed on each diamond. Two of the scoreboards were funded by a donation from the Strathman Sales Company
- Metal roofs installed on each dugout
- Full service concessions in the concessions building
- Additional landscape features throughout the softball complex
- New Horticulturist/Maintenance position added to oversee the maintenance functions of the softball complex. 357 adult softball teams played in the city league program in 1999
