Lance comes to the Oakland Community Center with an extensive background in Parks & Recreation. He previously worked for six years as a Center Director with Shawnee County Parks & Recreation followed by a two-year stint as Regional Director at the American Heart Association. He started with Parks and Recreation of Topeka in January 2002. His primary responsibility is writing grants for the community centers division. His education background includes a BS in Criminal Justice from Washburn University with a minor in Sociology. Lance also has his Masters in Public Administration from Troy State University. Lance's hobbies include coaching youth sports (especially soccer), running, and competing in 5 & 10K runs. He is involved with the YMCA, YWCA, State Street Elementary SPMT, Police Athletic League Board Member, Tecumseh North PTO, Shawnee Heights District Advisory Council, Oakland Teen Advisory Council, and the Oakland Advisory Committee. His motto favorite quote is, "Stop blaming everyone else and ask yourself what YOU are going to do about it!"
