Local Games in Kansas: Salina Senior Games | The 50 Plus Games of Greater Kansas City

The Kansas Senior Olympics are open to anyone who will be 50 years old (or older) by December 31, 2009.

The Kansas Senior Olympic games were established in 1984 by Parks and Recreation of Topeka and the Senior Adult Program. Since then, the total entry has increased from 91 to 769 in 2008. This entry represented 92 Kansas communities and 15 states.

The Kansas Senior Olympics are open to anyone who will be 50 years old (or older) by December 31, 2009.

In even numbered years, athletes who meet preset requirements at the Kansas Senior Olympics qualify to participate in the National Senior Games - The Senior Olympics presented by Humana held in odd numbered years. Topeka is the only site in Kansas where athletes may qualify for the national games.

The National Senior Olympics
The National Senior Games Association is a non-profit member of the United States Olympic Committee dedicated to motivating senior men and women to lead a healthy lifestyle through the senior games movement. The NSGA governs the Summer National Senior Games, the largest multi-sport event in the world for seniors, and other national senior athletic events. The NSGA is the umbrella association for member state organizations across the United States that host State Senior Games or Senior Olympics.

The NSGA supports and sanctions these member state organizations so that adults can participate in their state in events year-round that will keep them motivated to achieve greater value and quality in their lives by staying healthy, active and fit. The national association works with state and federal agencies, colleges and universities to better understand and support healthy aging initiatives for seniors and partners with national leaders committed to senior health, wellness and quality of life. The NSGA is committed to providing information to support education and research initiatives enabling senior athletes and others to be better informed about ways to ensure healthy aging.

2009 National Senior Games presented by Humana
The 2009 Summer National Senior Games, presented by Humana, are coming to the San Francisco Bay Area (Palo Alto, CA) August 1 - 15, 2009. To participate, athletes must qualify at an NSGA State Games during calendar year 2008. For more information, visit www.2009seniorgames.org.

The 26th Annual Kansas Senior Olympics:
The 2009 Kansas Senior Olympics competition will take place September 23-27 for individual and doubles competition; October 1-4 for team sports competition and October 2 for the golf competition. The event will be headquartered at the Big Gage Shelterhouse, Gage Park, 10th and Gage, in Topeka with venues throughout the city. It is anticipated that up to 650 senior athletes from across Kansas and the nation will take part in these games.
