Hillcrest has the best part-time staff. These people work here because they like to work with people and enjoy sports and crafts. They are the backbone of Hillcrest; with out them Hillcrest would not be what it is today, and that is a fun, safe, and smooth running environment for people to enjoy.
Barbara Stevens
My name is Barbara Stevens. I started working with and around children at the Deer Creek Housing Authority. We had no center and we used an empty apartment, where we played and served lunches. I, along with other ladies, worked with the Director of Housing and the Architect to design and build the Deer Creek Community Center. It became reality when Mayor Butch Felker and I cut the ribbon at the new center. I love working with children. I also love to sew and do little crafts.
Romero Cavens
Hello my name is Romero and I am a rec. leader for Hillcrest Community Center. I've been affiliated with Parks and Rec. through the mayor's summer and winter youth programs since the 70's. I've worked at Hillcrest the past 7 years. I enjoy a variety of sports, children, exercise, and fun.
Andrea Gragg
Hello, my name is Andrea Gragg and I am the new Assistant Center Director for Hillcrest. I am from Topeka; I attended Topeka West High School and then went to Baker University in Baldwin City, Ks. There, I graduated with a BA in Studio Art. I enjoy playing sports and creating my own pieces of artwork. I enjoy working and learning with kids and adults in all areas of sports and activities.
Darrell Stewart
Hi, my name is Darrell Stewart and I am the director at the Hillcrest Community Center. I have been working in recreation for 19 years now.
I really enjoy people, especially our young ones. Anyone is welcome to come in and speak to me about anything -- I have an open door policy. Hillcrest is on the threshold of some very exciting programs and events. We have a very friendly staff and we look forward to you visiting our center.
