Fines, fees and costs for traffic infractions and parking violations must be paid or a court date scheduled within fourteen (14) days of receiving a citation. If a defendant wants to contest a citation or needs additional time to pay, he or she must appear in the Court Clerk’s office within fourteen (14) days of receiving the citation. Failure to pay a citation or personally appear at Court within fourteen (14) days will typically result in a bench warrant issuance and/or notice of driver’s license suspension with the applicable department of motor vehicles.

Charges that carry the possibility of a jail sentence upon conviction cannot be resolved by mail - the defendant must appear in court to answer the charge(s). If a defendant has questions concerning the seriousness of the offense with which he or she has been charged, then please contact the Municipal Court office at (785) 368-3776.

Fines may be paid with cash, check, credit card (only VISA/MasterCard), cashiers check, or money order at the Municipal Court Clerk’s Office, 214 SE 8th, 2nd Floor, Topeka, Kansas 66603. The office hours are 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (except the first Friday of each month from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. when the court closes for staff meetings). However, cases where Department of Motor Vehicle reinstatement fees are assessed must be paid in cash, cashier’s check or money order - personal checks cannot be accepted.

Payments and correspondence may be mailed to the Topeka Municipal Court, 214 SE 8th Street, 2nd Floor, Topeka, Kansas 66603. Please reference the citation number and defendant's name or include the citation with your payment. Please make checks payable to the City of Topeka. There will be a $30.00 charge on all returned checks and returned checks will be turned over to CheckRite for collection.
