Mayor of Topeka | Human Relations Commission

Purpose. The purpose of the Human Relations Commission is to endeavor to eliminate prejudice among various racial, ethnic and other groups in the city and to further goodwill among all people of the city. The commission and each commissioner shall fulfill the duties and responsibilities as set forth in the Code of the City of Topeka.

Membership. In accordance with City Code 2.55.030, the Human Relations Commission shall consist of nine members appointed by the Mayor and approved by council. Members of the commission shall serve two-year terms. Members shall not serve beyond the end of their appointed terms. Upon expiration of a term the position shall remain vacant until a successor is appointed. Members shall be drawn from diverse racial, ethnic, commercial, industrial and other segments of the community and shall be city residents.  Members shall serve without compensation.

Term limits:  None.  No provisions for removal.
