Human Relations Commission | Mission StatementThe mission of the Human Relations Commission is to ensure the fair and equal rights to all citizens of Topeka (including city employees) in the areas of employment, housing, and public accommodation.
The Human Relations Commission understands the intent and importance of the COT-No Discrimination, No Harassment Policy being implemented by the Human Resource Department.
Yet, consistent with the mission of the HRC, and in an effort to reduce any potential for future city employee misunderstanding, please note that the No Discrimination, No Harassment Policy is not the same as, and should not be confused with the Human Relations Commission's civil rights complaint processes and procedures as defined in HRC Ordinance 17681.
Further, per the No Discrimination, No Harassment Policy, Section 2.4 Reporting Procedures: "Nothing contained herein shall abrogate an employee's ability to seek redress from any other entity". Thus, the Human Relations Commission (HRC), Kansas Human Rights Commission (KHRC), and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) are all available to meet with any individual, including city employees, who may have questions regarding discrimination in the work place and civil rights protections under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
