East Topeka Summit
The City hosted a community meeting on Thursday, May 6th at Highland Park High School’s Cafeteria to discuss ways city leadership along with community and business partnerships can build a stronger East Topeka.Those in attendance agree to have a follow-up Summit meeting in September – date and location to be announced.
Joe Fackel with Buxton (www.buxtonco.com) made a short presentation about the leakage in East Topeka specifically at 29th & California. He shared with his statistics that we loose $60M due to the fact that people have to leave the area to shop/spend money elsewhere.
Everyone walked away with a couple of ideas to follow up on 1) bring more of the people from East Topeka to the table for discussions about opportunities and help solve the problems 2) explore the development opportunities 3) training opportunities for young people.
