Most would describe Sandra Clear as a giving person, she has worked for and volunteered for non-profit organizations most of her life. Her non-profit career began in 1975 when she began working for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. From there she was employed at United Way, Services for Alcohol Related Problems, and Lutheran Social Services. During her employment at Lutheran Social Services her husband and family decided to provide foster care and ended up adopting three of those children. She has also been elected Mother of the Year in Shawnee County.
Sandra has a BS from Washburn University in English and Education and a Master Degree in Education from Baker University. She currently teaches 7th and 8th grade Language Arts, and is the yearbook sponsor, at Osage City Middle School. Sandra has also taught at Westside Christian Academy.
Starting in 1975, Sandra has volunteered for the Girl Scouts of America, SANESART, she was a CASA volunteer, and she has testified before the senate regarding disability rights. Currently, she is involved with STARS (Stop Trafficking And Reject Slavery) coalition. Sandra also volunteers for Sheep Dog Impact Assistance, a National organization that assists military, law enforcement, fire and rescue, and EMS personnel. Sheep Dog Impact Assistance also deploys to disasters. Her daughter, Kacey, started the Kansas Chapter and is a Police Officer.
Krystal, twin of Kacey, is an Operations Manager at the Home Depot Distribution Center, the president-elect of Sertoma, teaches at Washburn University and is a board member of the Boys and Girls Club. Krystal has chaired the Great Topeka Duck Race for the last three years. Sandra’s daughter Jenny lives in Texas with her husband and son and is a designer. Katlyn loves to play sports and Kelsee plans on attending Washburn University in the fall.
Sandra’s husband, Randy, works in Lawrence and has his HVAC license. He is also very active at Topeka Bible Church. Sandra is very proud of her family and their value of giving back. When she is not giving her time, Sandra likes to paint, quilt, design and read.
