The inspection concluded with the zoo being cited for two non-compliant items. Rust was present on some bolts in the outdoor Orangutan exhibit, and a rotted board was found on a wind break in an area that is temporarily being used to introduce two Coyotes.
Inspectors continued to voice their pleasure with improvements to the zoos elephant and gorilla programs, and complimented zoo staff on their knowledge and commitment to care of zoo animals.
“We definitely continue to see the relationship between the zoo and the USDA improving,” Zoo Director Brendan Wiley said. “We have to stay focused on continuing to improve, and taking the zoo to the next level. We must continue to demonstrate that we are committed to being a proactive organization that plans for potential problems and challenges we might encounter.”
