Pending 2015: Major Bridge and Street Projects Under Construction
Downtown Kansas Avenue, 6th to 10th
  • Restart Date: January 28
  • Estimated Completion Date:
  • Details: Work being performed by April 15 includes storm water piping being installed on east side of 600 block; water tie-ins at the 6th and 7th Street intersections; and water service line crossings. Construction on the west side of the street to begin in early to mid-April, weather dependent.


SW 37th Street – Burlingame Road to Gage Blvd. – 2014 Design; 2015/2016 construction
  • Estimated Start Date: April 6
  • Estimated Completion Date: Dec. 4
  • Details: This project will span two construction seasons (2015 and 2016) with the first portion taking place between SW Burlingame and the I-470 Bridge. The roadway will be widened to 3-5 Lanes.


SE Colorado Avenue – 26th to 29th
  • Estimated Start Date: TBD
  • Estimated Completion Date: TBD
  • Details: Construct a new sidewalk on one side of the street; drainage improvements; street improvements.


NE Seward Avenue – NE Branner to NE Rice Rd
  • Estimated Start Date: July 15
  • Estimated Completion Date: Dec. 4
  • Details: This project will span two construction seasons (2015 and 2016) with the first portion taking place between Rice Road and Sumner. In 2015, improvements will include a mill and overlay and a water main replacement. In 2016, improvements will include complete replacement of the roadway; addition of streetscape amenities; a water main replacement; storm water infrastructure replacement with added enhancements to improve storm water runoff quality.


SW Mulvane – SW 6th to SW 10th
  • Estimated Start Date: April 6
  • Estimated Completion Date: Nov. 6
  • Details: This project will be the complete removal and replacement of the roadway; water main replacement may also be included.


SW Hope Street from 17th to 21st
  • Estimated Start Date: March 1
  • Estimated Completion Date: Oct. 30
  • Details: This project will span two construction seasons (2015 and 2016) with the first roadway portion taking place between 17th and 19th streets. The water main between 19th and 21st streets will also be completed in 2015. In 2016, the stretch between 19th and 21st streets will be removed and replaced.

SW 15th Street from Gage to McAlister and SW Woodhull from 15th to Huntoon

  • Details: This project will be divided into many phases. If you travel those streets, check here weekly for phase changes to ensure you are approaching businesses from the right direction.

North Topeka area
  • Estimated Start Date: TBD
  • Estimated Completion Date: TBD
  • Details: A mill and overlay in the area west of downtown North Topeka (aka NOTO) will be completed early this spring. Additional improvements to North Topeka neighborhood streets are in design and construction will take place later this year.


Hi-Crest – east of the Golf Course, west of SE California, south of SE 29th Street, and north of the Turnpike

  • Details: Most of the work will include curb repairs and a mill and overlay of streets.


6th Avenue from Wanamaker Road to west of I-70 Bridges – Phase 1
  • Estimated Start Date: June 3
  • Estimated Completion Date: December 4
  • Details: This project will span two construction seasons (2015 and 2016) with the first portion taking place between the roundabout at 6th and Wanamaker and the west entrance into Security Benefit. This project will include widening 6th Street east of Wanamaker and west of the I-70 Bridge to three lanes. Concrete panels in the roundabout at 6th and Wanamaker will be replaced with full-depth asphalt paving. In 2016, work will include the portion from the west entrance to the bridge.


NW Lyman Road from Tyler St. to Kansas Ave.

  • Estimated Completion Date: Oct. 30
  • Details: This project will include replacement of the existing roadway and open ditches with a modern three-lane road complete with an underground storm sewer system.
