You must be 21 years of age at the time of appointment (20 1/2 at the time of testing).
Graduation from a U.S. High School, G.E.D. or equivalent from a U.S. institution that is recognized by the State of Kansas.
According to KAR 160-3-4 education requirements exist as:
- Graduating from accredited US High School OR
- General Education Development (GED) OR
- Proof of program completion of non-accredited private secondary school registered with the state in which instruction was completed AND
Scoring at least 50th percentile in
American College Test (ACT) OR
Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) OR
- Proof of admission into post-secondary state educational institution accredited by the Kansas State Board of Regents or another accrediting body having the same minimum admission standards.

Academy training and to perform all aspects of police work.
