Purpose. The Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging is funded under the Older Americans Act and the state department of aging to be the administrative agency for funds for elderly persons in Jefferson, Douglas and Shawnee Counties. The Advisory Council advises the JAAA Board of Directors concerning policies and programs that affect older citizens.

Membership. In accordance with the by-laws and City Code 2.05.080, the Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging shall consist of fifteen members; nine appointed by Shawnee, Douglas and Jefferson Counties; two members to be appointed by the City of Lawrence; three  members to be appointed by the mayor of the City of Topeka and one member by the City of Oskaloosa.   The terms for members appointed shall be three years.   Membership shall be made up of more than 50% older persons, including minority individuals who are participants, or who are eligible to participate in programs under this part; representatives of older persons; representatives of health care provider organizations, including providers of veteran’s health care; representatives of supportive service providers organizations; persons with leadership experience in the private and voluntary sectors and the general public.  There shall be no more than one (1) representative of a service provider receiving funding through JAAA serving on the Advisory Council at any one time.

Members:  Three appointed by Mayor of Topeka.  Other appointments are from city of Lawrence and Oskaloosa and from Douglas, Shawnee and Jefferson Counties.   
Term: Three years 
Term limits:  2 full consecutive terms
Meets: Monthly; time and place varies
