The mission of the Human Relations Commission is to conduct outreach and educational activities that promote justice and cultural understanding, and improve relationships among all citizens of the City of Topeka.
The Topeka Human Relations Commission meets the first Monday of every month at 5:30 p.m. in the Cyrus K. Holliday building. The meetings are open to the public.

Ban-the-Box is the box on the employment application that asks if an individual has been convicted of a crime. A town hall meeting about this movement is scheduled to last from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 17, at the Holliday building, 620 S.E. Madison.

Purpose: The purpose of the Human Relations Commission is to endeavor to eliminate prejudice among various racial, ethnic and other groups in the city and to further goodwill among all people of the city. The commission and each commissioner shall fulfill the duties and responsibilities as set forth in the Code of the City of Topeka.
Membership: In accordance with City Code 2.55.030, the Human Relations Commission shall consist of nine members appointed by the Mayor and approved by council. Members of the commission shall serve two-year terms. Members shall not serve beyond the end of their appointed terms. Upon expiration of a term, the position shall remain vacant until a successor is appointed. Members shall be drawn from diverse racial, ethnic, commercial, industrial and other segments of the community and shall be city residents. Members shall serve without compensation.
