Community Action Board
Authority: Federal law.
Twenty-four to fifty-one members; indefinite terms. No term limits. Members shall represent the private sector of Shawnee County, representatives and advocates of the poverty sector and five members shall be city public elected officials or their designee. Board administers many of the federally funded programs for moderate to low-income persons. Agency performs outreach and referral services for poor and disadvantaged, mobilizes pubic and private resources to fund programs to help eliminate poverty; provide case management services to promote self-reliance, operates weatherization program. Board meets bi-monthly, committees meet monthly. Mayor and or Mayor’s representative and 2 Council members or their alternates. Appointees will serve the same term as the Mayor and the council representative. Other members are from the private sector.
